SOLIDARITY AS A (SHARED) PRACTICE
Discussions and workshops with Berlin Mondiale’s network
Solidarity involves mutually supporting one another, grounded in the experience of a common situation. It is reflected in the social infrastructure or the lack thereof. Given the backdrop of ongoing challenges in Berlin such as inflation, housing shortages, reductions in funding for cultural and social projects, sharpening migration laws, and the aftermath of the pandemic, solidarity assumes a crucial role.
At our next Exchange Event, we want to think about whether and how solidarity as a shared practice is possible, beyond buzzwords and tokenistic gestures within the context of arts and culture in Berlin. Who engages in solidarity with whom and why? What types of spaces and expertise are needed to foster solidarity? Which foundations or principles do such practice need, short- and long-term?
Central to the event will be perspectives from individuals in Berlin who work in art and culture, particularly those situated within a (post)migrant position.
